Cafe Arpan

Sushma Nagarkar, the founder of Yash Charitable Trust, spoke about the vision and philosophy behind Cafe Arpan. Being employed in the community with the requisite support, fundamentally alters the quality of life of every individual, helping them live with respect and dignity. She urged everyone to look for ways in which each individual with autism or ID can be supported to be meaningfully engaged. 

Autism as a mode of being

Brenner, a Berlin-based psychoanalytic theorist, counselor and author of The Autistic Subject, posits that Autism is a unique mode-of-being that is different from other structures of the human psyche. In this conversation with Ganesh Anantharaman, he elucidates key elements of his proposition, underlining the need to see autism as a valid subjective position that is inseparably linked to one’s identity and basic practices of existence.

This session, facilitated by Akila Vaidyanathan, Director, Amaze Charitable Trust, helped the participants explore this question while also nudging them to support their grandchildren in their journey towards greater independence.
